ALBERTS DAY caught the eye with his finish in his last showing. He is in top order and is tipped to make it third time lucky. Montante was runner-up to Social Network in his seasonal debut. This Simon Jones-trained gelding has come out well from that run, and as he is in top order, his chances look strong. Mr Oshkosh is back from a very long rest, after striking in the International Meeting. In this category, he warrants respect. Bright And Blue was not disgraced in his return to competition and is capable of making the frame, while Captain Nero and Mc Naught are good place bets.

GLEN COCO makes his debut for Gilbert Rousset’s yard. He is a promising sort, having showed bags of ability in training. He can make an instant visit to the winner’s enclosure here. Data Controller is finally set for his seasonal debut. He has been handed a plum draw and is not prevented from making it. Al Firenze might not have shown much in his previous start, but he has benefited from that run, and with Rye Joorawon riding him this time round, he can frighten the selection. Laughistheanswer has fully recovered from his issues and having shown no problems at track work, he can make the quartet. Dark Liability and Tigre Libre are solid place contenders.

Var’s Dream effortlessly sailed to victory in his latest, beating the second best by 6.3 lengths, the most dominant so far this season. He remains in good nick and even if he is tackling a longer trip, he can confirm. SCHACHAR ended his debut season strongly, before landing 3rd place in his recent outing. Raymond Danielson is on board this time round, and from draw 1, he should run a cracker. Melson scored a gutsy win in the 3rd meeting. He might be climbing up a Benchmark and has been drawn averagely, but nevertheless, he still merits consideration in this. Triad Of Fortune failed to confirm in his recent run. Even so, his chances here must not be taken lightly. Pajama Party has arrived at Vincent Allet’s operation with an eye-catching C.V. He did everything but score back in his homeland. He has worked well and is not prevented from making an instant visit to the winner’s enclosure. Gameloft was a beaten favourite in his last showing and it won’t be a surprise if he manages to go one better.

Watch Out: Triad Of Fortune, Var’s Dream, Melson
Evergreen failed to make any impact in his recent start. Even so, he has benefited from that run and is in better shape and form. He should produce a competitive showing in this. Stable mate Paladin has been chosen by Steven Arnold, and makes his first start of the season, after winning superbly in the International Meeting. He showed up well in his exercises and even over this short trip, his claims must not be scoffed at. Victory Team made it a debut to remember in the 4th meeting, earning both Matthew Palmer and Amar Sewdyal’s yard their first strikes. He is in even better shape and has a good chance of confirming. ENTREE may have failed to confirm in his recent start, but he was only 1.2 lengths behind Seven Fountains. This Gilbert Rousset-trained gelding is capable of bouncing back, even if he would have preferred a much longer trip. Mr Bond a genuine account in his debut, landing the final podium spot. His wide draw is a big concern, but he is not prevented from making his presence felt. Stable mate and debutant Noah’s Ark was a genuine performer in South Africa. He has shown bags of potential in his workouts and he can start his new career in style. Valerin and Fortissimo – who will relish running in this category – are not without their chances here.

A lethargic start failed to prevent Blow Me Away from taking the Noble Salute Cup. Still in top shape, he can double the score. The vote however goes to SCOTSNOG, who justified his status as favourite in the third meeting. He remains in good nick, and from draw 1, he is taken to confirm. One Cool Dude was not disgraced in his latest, especially over a short trip. This classy sort would still have preferred a much longer trip, but it would be wrong to put a line through his chances. Nordic Warrior has done a lot of gallops and warrants serious consideration in this, while his stable companion and last time winner Alpha Pegasi and Belong To Me are not without their chances in this.

Race 6 – The Elytis – IT Distribution For Africa Mauritius Derby Trial Cup (Group 3)
Ready To Attack became a household name when he took home the season’s opening classic. Having returned to training, he is in even better condition and is capable of confirming. However, preference is for PRINCE OF THIEVES, who was not very far behind the winner in the Noble Salute Cup. He is in top order and is taken to do even better here. Hard Day’s Night deserves another chance after running into major misfortune in his debut. His attitude was first rate at track work and it won’t be a surprise if he bounces back. Executive Power is a promising newcomer and has shown bags of ability in his workouts. He warrants plenty of respect. Speed Limit puts his unbeaten record on the line in this and based on his current form, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him extend it. Jiggery Pokery is unbeaten this season. He is in good shape and with only 53 kg on his back, he is worth a thought. Ole Gunnar is a promising sort and must be watched closely.

Watch Out: Hard Day’s Night, Ready To Attack, Executive Power
KIMBERLEY has been the bridesmaid in both of his first two races. He is down a Benchmark this time round and he has a strong chance of making it third time lucky. Bezamod might not have shown much in his debut start, but he is in much better condition, and from draw 1, he should show up well. League Of Legends has not shown much so far this season. It is worth noting though that he has won twice in this category and another one here must not be discounted. Ravatak makes his first start of the season, due to unfortunate circumstances. He is in good shape and should be thereabouts in this. For the lower placings, Catwalk Model and Seven League Boots are good contenders.

The final contest is a rematch between Newsman and CAPE HORN. The former ran on improvement in the 6th meeting, and having continued to progress, he can do even better from draw 1. The latter was not disgraced when defeated by Golden Ball. He is in top order and can set the record straight. A case can be made for Ek Tha Tiger, who landed 3rd place in his recent start, despite being incommoded in the final few metres. He was in good form at track work and should be in the shake up. Jullidar may have finished only 5th in his previous outing, but he caught the eye with his finish in the final few metres. In this category, he warrants serious consideration. Red China produced his best showing to date in Mauritius in his latest. He has been badly drawn however, and his best hope is a place in the quartet.
