Mauritius Racing Tips – Meeting 7
VAR’S DREAM is the one to side with in the first of two consecutive 1000 metre races. His 6.3 length win in his latest is the most dominant so far this season. He remains in top order and is taken to confirm. Act Of Valor has winning form in this Benchmark, and even if he is making his seasonal debut, he is not prevented from giving the favourite a run for his money. Mount Hillaby has been drawn in the ace and is worth a thought in this, while newcomer Rebel Alliance looks to be a promising sort and must be watched closely.
Top Tip: VAR’S DREAM
Watch Out: Act Of Valor, Mount Hillaby, Rebel Alliance
ANSWERINGENESIS’ aura of invincibility was crushed late on by Victory Team in the 4th meeting. He is back in Benchmark 41, where he won on Duchess Of York Cup day, and the vote is given to him to bounce back. Debutant Mystical Twilight has worked solidly and should produce a good account of himself. The filly Don’t Tell Mama is a specialist over the kilometre and having been handed a perfect draw, she should go close. Bellicosity will appreciate running in this class and looks the most likely to complete the quartet in this.
Top Tip: ANSWERINGENESIS
Watch Out: Don’t Tell Mama, Mystical Twilight, Bellicosity
Forced for the role as bridesmaid in the opening meeting, MOUNT FUJI managed to go one better in his last run. He has continued to progress and even in this class, he can confirm. Burwaaz ran a cracker in his recent outing, opening his Mauritian account in the process. He has good form in this category and although his draw is a concern, he is not prevented from doubling the score. if he can reproduce his last effort, he will be very hard to beat. Seven Oceans produced an eye-catching performance in race meeting 3. A repeat of that run should see him in the mix. Avail is a threat from the ace, while Sacred Jewel and Ravatak are good place bets.
Top Tip: MOUNT FUJI
Watch Out: Burwaaz, Seven Oceans, Avail
Kemal Kavur is worth another look after running into unfortunate circumstances. In good order, he will appreciate the additional 100 metres and as he looks the sole frontrunner in this, he will be hard to stop if allowed to dictate proceedings. Stable companion Dustan has been chosen by Steven Arnold. He has been well-prepared for his seasonal debut and as he is a good finisher, he will be a big threat in the closing stages. Jay Jay’s Wild won in comfortable fashion in his last showing. The fact that he is up two categories should not prevent him from doubling the score. ENTREE may have failed to confirm in his recent start, but he was only 1.2 lengths behind Seven Fountains. This Gilbert Rousset-trained gelding can bounce back here. Sir Earl Grey is in improved shape compared to his last start and is expected to produce a better showing. Similar comments apply to Phiri E Kwatile, who has been drawn in the ace and has the in-form Jeanot Bardottier on board.
Top Tip: ENTREE
Watch Out: Jay Jay’s Wild, Sir Earl Grey, Kemal Kavur
A lethargic start failed to prevent BLOW ME AWAY from taking the Noble Salute Cup. Still in top shape, this Rameshwar Gujadhur-trained gelding gets the vote here. Scotsnog justified his status as favourite in the third meeting. Having remained in good nick, he is rated as the biggest danger to the selection. One Cool Dude was not disgraced in his latest, especially over a short trip. This classy sort would still have preferred a much longer trip, but it would be wrong to put a line through his chances. Nordic Warrior has done a lot of gallops and warrants serious consideration in this, while Bouclette Top and Belong To Me are two interesting outsiders.
Top Tip: BLOW ME AWAY
Watch Out: Scotsnog, One Cool Dude, Nordic Warrior
6th Race – The Quantum Anniversary Mauritius Derby Trial Cup (Group 3)
Ready To Attack became a household name when he took home the season’s opening classic. Having returned to training, he is in even better condition and is capable of confirming. However, preference is for HARD DAY’S NIGHT, who deserves another chance after running into major misfortune in his own debut. His attitude was first rate at track work and his connections are of the opinion that he can rebound in style here. Prince Of Thieves was not very far behind the winner in his latest. Brandon Lerena rides him this time round and he is given plenty of respect. Speed Limit puts his unbeaten record on the line in this and based on his current form, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him extend it. Jiggery Pokery is unbeaten this season. He is in good shape and with only 52 kg on his back, he should be in the shake up.
Top Tip: HARD DAY’S NIGHT
Watch Out: Ready To Attack, Prince Of Thieves, Speed Limit
It was another frustrating case of so near yet so far for BURG in his latest, as he was the bridesmaid to Apple Pie. He is taken to set the record straight once and for all in this. Paladin made it a debut to remember with Maxime Guyon in the International Meeting. He has been a regular in training since the start of the season and as he is in very good condition, he has a solid chance of confirming. Pierneef thought he had done enough to end a two year winless drought in race meeting 4. Even if the 1365 metres is considered too sharp for him, he is not prevented from bouncing back. Cash Lord did not disgrace himself in his return to competition. This veteran has come out well from that run and should go close here. Valerin is down a Benchmark and merits consideration, along with Racing For Fun, who runs well fresh.
Top Tip: BURG
Watch Out: Paladin, Pierneef, Cash Lord
NADAS showed vast improvement in his previous showing. He looked bright at track work and another strong showing is forthcoming from him. Shield Of Thunder ended a long winless drought in his last run and although his recent results in this Benchmark are mixed, he shouldn’t be far away in this. Political Power is always thereabouts and warrants consideration in all combinations. Rock On Geordies caught the eye in his debut and having been entered in a lower category this time round, he can do even better. Varational has benefited from his debut outing and is expected to show progress.
Top Tip: NADAS
Watch Out: Shield Of Thunder, Political Power, Rock On Geordies
