Mauritius Racing Tips – Meeting 5
Chitranjan Ramdin has entered SOCIAL NETWORK for the second week running, a decision that must be respected. He produced a good showing last Saturday, even if he was beaten late on by Chap Trap. He will appreciate the slightly shorter trip and is taken to go one better. Lord Wellington produced his best showing yet on Mauritian soil just two meetings ago. If he can reproduce that run, he can make it. Punters King has come out well from a break and warrants respect with Rye Joorawon on board. Rasta Rebel is in better condition compared to his debut outing and can have a say in this, while Montante has adapted well in Simon Jones’ yard and is rated as a good place bet.
Top Tip: SOCIAL NETWORK
Watch Out: Lord Wellington, Punters King, Rasta Rebel
VAR’S DREAM gave Answeringenesis a strong fright in his latest and it came in a higher division. In this class, the vote is given to him to go one better. Rock On is new to Jean-Michel Henry stable, having performed honestly back in South Africa. He showed up well at track work and can start his new career on a winning note. Purple Rock is another newcomer that must be watched closely. He caught the eye in training and has been drawn in the ace. Lord Al and Prince George have both been drawn averagely, but it would be wrong to write them off.
Top Tip: VAR’S DREAM
Watch Out: Rock On, Purple Rock, Lord Al
Without A Doubt made it look so simple in his debut start, making an instant visit to the winner’s enclosure. He remains in good nick and has a good chance of doubling the score. However, the vote is given to RIGHT TO TANGO, who made it a winning return for Cedric Segeon in the Duchess Of York Cup meeting. Well-trained, he is tipped to confirm. Kentucky Bluegrass was a solid performer last season. He is ready for his seasonal bow and can make his presence felt. Red Hot Poker went close last time out. Even if he is tackling a longer trip, he should be thereabouts. Captain’s Cronicle’s recent form may not look promising, but he does have winning form in this category, and having also been drawn in the ace, he warrants the greatest of respect.
Top Tip: RIGHT TO TANGO
Watch Out: Without A Doubt, Kentucky Bluegrass, Captain’s Cronicle
A slow getaway failed to prevent ANTWERP from producing his best showing in his latest, as he finished 2nd, 1.3 lengths behind Canadian Dollar. Better drawn and with Swapneel Rama on board, he is taken to go one better. Triad Of Fortune ran a cracker in the opening meeting, taking his 4th win the process. He has been handed a plum draw and his chances of confirming look good. Black Tractor produced a good finish to take 3rd in his last run. This Four-year old should have no problems with the longer trip and should go close here. In The Trenches always performs consistently and even if his bad draw is a big concern, he must not be taken lightly. Al Dangeur looks a very promising sort and it is worth keeping a close eye on him.
Top Tip: ANTWERP
Watch Out: Triad Of Fortune, Black Tractor, Al Dangeur
NAVISTAR performed genuinely in 2016, picking up two wins and finishing his other races on the podium. He looked in good form in his workouts and he will be very hard to stop if he dictates proceedings. Burg was a disappointing 4th in his last start. He appreciate the drop in trip and is rated as the biggest danger to the selection. Canadian Dollar replicated his good work in his latest, scoring an impressive win. He remains in good nick and with Brandon Lerena on board this time round, he is not prevented from confirming. Cash Lord and In Your Dreams are rated as two interesting outsiders.
Top Tip: NAVISTAR
Watch Out: Burg, Canadian Dollar, Cash Lord
Race 6 – The Gaetan Halbwachs Cup
The vote is given to THE TRIPSTER, who landed the final podium spot in his recent run. In top order, he has been better drawn this time round and it is worth noting that his wins have come over the 1365 metres. Split The Breeze showed up very well in his previous outing. This Shirish Narang-trained gelding remains in good nick and has a good chance of going one better. Ryder Cup’s chances must not be scoffed at, as he is down a class and jumps from draw 1. Tabreek has come out well from his debut outing and is expected to show improvement, while Mr Leyend and Alpha Pegasi are good bets for the lower placings.
Top Tip: THE TRIPSTER
Watch Out: Split The Breeze, Ryder Cup, Tabreek
Not much to choose from here, although preference is for KIMBERLEY, who had to settle for second best in his debut. He has benefited from that run and a bold bid is expected from him. Rock On Geordies is new to Rameshwar Gujadhur stable. He may be a maiden, but he did nothing wrong back in South Africa. He has shown promise in his workouts and with Rye Joorawon on board, he can make it a winning start to his new career. Some of Vincent Allet’s newcomers have made promising starts to their Mauritian career, and Dealer’s Charm is another debutant that is worth watching, having arrived with a good-looking C.V. Zen Master and Greatfiveeight are also promising on paper and warrant respect in this contest.
Top Tip: KIMBERLEY
Watch Out: Rock On Geordies, Dealer’s Charm, Zen Master
The first 1600 metre race of 2017 is a rematch between Studiolo and his conqueror in the second meeting – SEVEN CARAT. The former has come out very well from his debut run and will appreciate the additional 100 metres. The latter scored a pillar to post with relative ease and he remains in good order. Another tight battle is in the pipeline, with slight preference for the second-named horse. A case can be made for Tornado Man, who did not disgrace himself in his latest. He should go close here. Noordhoek Ice was a solid 4th in last Saturday’s meeting. He can do even better in this, with the step up in trip largely in his favour. Anafesto is a very hard horse to follow, as he is an inconsistent performer. The blinkers come off this time round and having been handed a plum draw, he should improve.
Top Tip: SEVEN CARAT
Watch Out: Studiolo, Tornado Man, Noordhoek Ice
