Mauritius Racing Tips – Meeting 12
Plenty of horses with chances in this opening contest over the 1850 metres, but slight reference is for DUNRAVEN. He was an excellent victor over this trip last time out and having remained in good form, he can earn Jeanot Bardottier his first win of the season. Bright And Blue is running again for the second week in succession – a decision, which must be respected. He failed to find a clear run in the final metres, which left him with a finish of 5th. He can improve on that, but only if he repeats last week’s effort. Brandewyn showed vast improvement to finish on the podium in his latest and he is given plenty of respect in this company. Mighty Lion was 3rd in his recent start, but it could have been an even better result, if he was ridden well. He will have the in-form Swapneel Rama on board this time round and his chances look rock-solid. Please To Progress was second best to stable mate Young Royal – who has since confirmed – in race meeting 8. He shouldn’t have any problems with the longer trip and is worth considering in all combinations.
Top Tip: DUNRAVEN
Watch Out: Bright And Blue, Brandewyn, Mighty Lion
NAVISTAR is taken to make it 3rd time lucky here. This Shirish Narang-trained gelding comes into this race on the back of two-second place finishes and both were in a higher benchmark. He is in decent shape and should strike. His nearest opponent could well be In The Trenches, who was downed by Evergreen in his debut outing. He has benefited from that start and will be bidding to go one better from draw 1. Shocked by Esteco in his last start, Triad Of Fortune’s pain must have been soothed after the victor confirmed. A genuine performer, he will have a major say in this, but must overcome his horrible draw. Roman Express bagged a brilliant win in his latest and he is not prevented from doubling the score. Ted Bassett is rated as a good outsider in this contest.
Top Tip: NAVISTAR
Watch Out: In The Trenches, Triad Of Fortune, Roman Express
Hot Rocket is widely expected to show his true colors here. Back running in benchmark 51 – where he won in last season’s Duke Of York Cup meeting, he showed satisfaction at track work and a big run is forthcoming from him. Max Rapax last start must be consigned to the dustbin. He can do a lot better. MR LEYEND was a beaten favourite in his latest, coming up short behind Cherish The Charm yet again. He might not have been a superstar in his workouts, but it should not stop him from mounting a bold bid. Valerin has done nothing wrong, apart from winning of course. In all four of his races, he has been the bridesmaid and it was yet another frustrating case of so near, but so far last time out. This four year-old looked his usual self in his workouts and he merits serious consideration even though he has drawn bad. Beacon Flare ran well in his return to racing and in this class, he is rated as a big player. Red Rain – who has arrived at Jean Michel Henry’s yard with a good reputation – and Phiri E Kwatile are rated as outsiders.
Top Tip: MR LEYEND
Watch Out: Valerin, Beacon Flare and Hot Rocket
Chosen Dash did not show much in the first classic of the season. He has benefited from a rest and is in vastly improved shape and form. He will appreciate running over the kilometre and he makes plenty of appeal here. Stable mate Zhan Hu failed to turn up in his last two races. He is running over a trip where he has tasted success more than once – including in a Group 3 – and is also down a benchmark. A cracker of a run is predicted from him, with Donavan Mansour on board. FORWARD DRIVE is a promising sort, new to Alain Perdrau’s yard. His work in training has caught the eye and having been given a plum draw, he is taken to start his new career on a winning note. Papa Joe has come out well from his recent run and even if he is trying his luck in a higher benchmark and drawn widest of all, underestimating him would be very wrong. Streetbouncer is an ace over this short trip and he warrants serious consideration, while Kimberly Al and the new comer Red Hot Poker shouldn’t be discarded.
Top Tip: FORWARD DRIVE
Watch Out: Zhan Hu, Streetbouncer, Papa Joe
Melson thought he had made it third time lucky in the 7th meeting, only to be demoted by the Racing Stewards. He will be looking to bounce back here, although he won’t have all his own way. There is the presence of HALABALOO, who may have had no answer to Esteco in his latest, but he still produced a strong showing, particularly in a higher benchmark. The vote is given to him to go one better here. Tornado Man has not done anything wrong this season, with two wins and two runner-ups. He remains in good nick and from draw 1, he should go close once again. Cinchona has yet to show his true colours so far this season. He has dropped down numerous benchmarks and having been chosen by Jeanot Bardottier, a place in the quartet is definitely in reach. League Of Legends and Freedom have been disappointing, and can’t be trusted.
Top Tip: HALABALOO
Watch Out: Melson, Tornado Man, Cinchona
6th Race – The Omnicane-Mauritius Guineas Cup (Group 2)
This Group 2 race is a straight fight between the first leg winner M L JET and the bridesmaid Night In Seattle, also winner of the Duchess Of York Cup. Both horses are in top order and are tipped to produce big runs. However, marginal preference is given to the former. Beyond those two, a good case can be made for Cherish The Charm, who is unbeaten so far this season and in three races. This is his biggest test yet, but such is his current form, he is capable of striking. Rampant Ice is finally set for his bow. He is the highest-rated horse in Jean Michel Henry’s yard and having shown up well in training, he can make the frame here.
Top Tip: M L JET
Watch Out: Night In Seattle, Cherish The Charm, Rampant Ice
JIGGERY POKERY gets the vote in the final contest. He produced a good showing in his debut, completing the podium and only 0.6 lengths behind Evergreen. Having come out well from that run, a bold showing is predicted this time round. Straight Jab nearly won from start-to-finish in his latest. He is rated as the chief threat to the selection and it won’t be a surprise if he does go one better. The Deacon has been well prepared for his debut. This gelding has looked promising in his workouts and he can make the frame. Stable mate Smitten may have been 2nd in his first two races, but he was nowhere to be seen in his last outing. Improvement is forthcoming, with the in-form Swapneel Rama riding him. Brazo and Ruby Rocker – who was decent in a barrier trial – are two good place bets.
Top Tip: JIGGERY POKERY
Watch Out: Straight Jab, The Deacon, Smitten
